Smoothies for the Soul

We are spending the summer in Morocco and besides been blessed enough to be able to spend three months with our family we are able to complete the holy month of fasting with an entire country who is also fasting. Last year we were on our own in our small Midwestern town and its always nicer to complete it with family. One of the main things on our Lftor table are smoothies … we make smoothies of all types. Below you can fins a few of our favorites but we would to find our your favorites… Please leave them in the comments below.

Citrus-Watermelon Slushie
2 cups cubed watermelon chilled
5 freshly juiced oranges (or 2 cups of orange juice) chilled

Place in blender until smooth. If you used watermelon with seeds don’t worry about picking them out just strain the juice before you serve it. If you are not serving it right away make sure to mix it before you serve it.

Banana Shake
1 banana sliced thin
2 cups milk (skim, whole, almond – whatever you like)

Place in blender until smooth.

Apple Milk
3 small red delicious apples
2 cups milk

Place in blend until smooth.

Cucumber Citrus Smoothie
1 cucumber
5 freshly juiced oranges (or 2 cups of orange juice) chilled

Place in blender until smooth

We use a Ninja Blender and it takes only a couple of pluses to smooth out these wonderful drinks… If you are in the market for a new blender I would highly recommend Ninja!

There is also a large debate in our house regarding the addition of sugar in these drinks. I never add sugar but H-dubs adds at least 2 tablespoons to each smoothie. Feel free to let us know which side of the sugar war you are on! 🙂
