Goulash… the dish of our house!

We love goulash and make several different types… It’s really the dish that we make at the end of the week when we have random veggies leftover and need something to do with them. Here is our version….


1-2 pounds hamburger

2 table spoons Italian seasoning (I love the stuff from Penzeys but use whatever you like)

2 cups broth chicken or beef (I make my own chicken stock and use it for everything … keep posted for a post about how to make yours too!)

1 onion diced

The important thing is add between 3-6 cups of raw veggies.

1 green pepper diced

1-2 carrots diced

1/4-1/2 a head of cabbage

1-2 potatoes diced

1-2 stalks of celery diced

1-2 zucchini diced

1 cup of pea

1 cup of mushrooms diced

Get all of your ingredients out of the cupboard and add everything above the line (hamburger, onion, broth and seasoning) to your frying pan. Depending on how much fat is in your hamburger you might have to add some oil. The start chopping your veggies and adding until you are happy with the dish. Remember your veggies will cook down (esp the cabbage) so it might look big at first but the broth will cook out and veggies will cook down. I let mine bubble on a med heat covered for about 20 mins. I stir often at first to make sure the hamburger breaks up. When your veggies are cooked and it no longer looks like soup you are done!

I serve mine over a mix of brown and white rice and quinoa. (I call it dirty rice) You could serve it over pasta or any other grain of your choice. You can always change it up by using different spices in it too.  Enjoy!! 🙂
